The Only IoT Healthcare Business in the U.S.

LTC/Skilled Nursing

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is forcing a number of changes in the healthcare market. In the early implementation stage the law indirectly impacted Long Term Care and Skilled Nursing Facilities.

Hospitals are being penalized for 30 day readmissions, hospital acquired infections, and low HCAHP survey scores, all of which are negatively impacting revenues. In addition, Value Based Purchasing (VBP) now includes procedural, quality, and patient communication requirements, which may also impact hospital revenues. Also, the 30 day readmission program, which currently focuses on CHF, PN, COPD, AMI, TKA, and THA, which will be expanded to include all readmissions starting 2018.

Starting 2018, LTC/SNFs will be directly impacted by the same regulatory penalties as hospitals. As these facilities rely on hospital discharges to increase occupancy, greater investment in readmission programs are necessary to manage patients effectively. While this is an uncompensated cost, preventing readmissions assures a continued flow of hospital discharge patients to these facilities.
